Vacation in Maine

We spent a week at Ian's family's lake house in Maine last week. Traveling with the little guy is always an adventure, but so far he has been delightful on the airplane. People always compliment him at the end of the flight by saying things like "oh what a cute guy...he didn't even make a peep." We purposely took small flights from small airports so that check in would be easy and the flights would be less likely to be full. We arrived in Maine without incident and had great fun at the lake where Ian spent most of his childhood summers. Nana picked us up at the Portland Jetport and Ian's mom and Uncle Paul and AUnt Linda were waiting at the house when we arrived. Hunter was fired up to see everyone and was very entertaining. He seems to enjoy hamming it up in front of new people.
Paul brought his rifles and the boys took some target practice...a favorite pastime.

Paul and Linda do a nice job holding the squirmy little guy.

The last half of the trip was less fun since Hunter picked up a fever and cough before we left for Minnesota again. The flight home was MISERABLE. He screamed and cried for a long time on our first flight to detroit. It was a commuter flight at 5:40am where most people were trying to catch some Z's. Hunter ensured that this would be impossible. Then the flight got delayed. We arrived in Detroit 8 minuted before our connector to Rochester was scheduled to depart. We deplaned in Detroit and Ian sprinted across the airport to try to hold the flight. No luck. The boarding door was shut. The next flight to Rochester was the next day. There was a flight to Minneapolis but it was overbooked. Down on our luck we got ready to spend some time in Detroit. But then we got paged on the overhead intercom because the ROchester flight has mechanical issues and was delayed so they let us on. Thank god! It sucked to leave NE, but it was good to be in our home again. It may be a long time before we fly with him again.

poor Hunter....and poor parents, what a sucky flight! Glad you had a fun vacation though! I think it is just like having another baby...by the time the next flight comes around, you forget how horrible the last one was (the labor..not the baby:) I'm babbling here...
