Ian tore himself away from work for a week and went up to the Boundary Waters Wilderness area with my Dad. Boundary Waters is along the Minnesota / Canada border and is a massive preserve with thousands of lakes separated by forest that has never been touched by a chainsaw. The wilderness is best seen from a canoe. It's like canoe backpacking with short portages between lakes.

Here is a picture of their favorite campsite on Vista Lake. Notice the bear bags on the tree. They saw lots of bear poo but no bears. Each lake had a few designated campsites with a fire pit and small clearing for tents surrounded by dense woods.

The weather was perfect...warm days, cool nights. This is Vista Lake in the morning with steam rising off the water.

The weather looked threatening only once, but no one got hit by lightning

They saw lots of Loons.

Here is an example of one of the portage trails between lakes.
